Quickly duplicate and evenly space an object in Adobe Illustrator

Follow these simple steps to easily duplicate and evenly space an object in Adobe Illustrator. Happy creating!

We want to create the part of this graphic here where all the wavy lines on this illustration are evenly spaced.

Step one: First we’re going to get our wavy line graphic.

Step two: Then we’re going to select it and hold down the option/alt key to duplicate.

Step three: While holding down the option/alt key, drag your duplicated line far enough away from the first line to create the desired spacing.

Step four: Now that you have your lines spaced apart correctly, simply hold down command-D (or ctrl-D) and press this as many times as you want to duplicate your wavy line. And that’s it!

Step five: Here we’ve overlayed them over the fish graphic and hit the pathfinder ‘minus-front’ shape mode to combine all the elements. And we’re done!

Further enhance your graphic with a texture effect. We’ve shown it here using our Vintage Stamp Texture Effect for Photoshop
